AUR Strategic Plan

Mission Statement

To inspire and educate the academic radiology community through collaboration and innovation in teaching, research, management, and leadership.

Vision Statement

We will be an agile, inclusive, collaborative, and creative organization bringing value to patients and their care by enabling radiologists to advance innovation in academic medicine and scholarship.

Goals, Objectives, and Strategies

Goal 1: Improve the AUR brand by creating the perception of AUR as the “go-to,” trusted source for content and opinion in academic radiology.

Objective #1: Improve the perception of AUR as an innovative radiology organization.

Strategy #1: Reassess the name of the organization

Strategy #2: Create a new logo for the organization.

Strategy #3: Update the website to reflect new organizational initiatives, as well as to create better access to information and organizational programs.

Objective #2: Re-orient Academic Radiology to reflect AUR’s niches in education and leadership.

Strategy #1: Create “white paper” and opinion pieces for Academic Radiology.

Strategy #2: Create committee structure organized by academic topic to provide content.

Strategy #3: Publish searchable, online supplement of the AUR meeting.

Strategy #4: Increase ratio of published educational papers to scientific papers.

Objective #3: Increase dissemination of AUR-based educational content to a wider audience.

Strategy #1: Offer a “traveling road show” of AUR-branded meeting content to other organizations (such as RSNA, ARRS and ACR).

Strategy #2: Advocate for radiology education for non-radiologists, including programs for medical students, non-radiology resident trainees, nursing students, occupational therapy and physical therapy students, and radiology technologists.

Goal 2: Enhance the AUR annual meeting experience by increasing collaboration at the meeting.

Objective #1: Change the meeting structure to enable more collaboration in small groups.

Strategy #1: Identify a new way to structure the annual meeting (reorganize the grid) to reduce the number of overlapping sessions and increase number of collaborative sessions.

Strategy #2: Decrease the number and the length of committee/board meetings.

Objective #2: Engage the participation of a broader group of academic radiologists.

Strategy #1: Create a faculty development program at the annual meeting targeted to division/section directors (current and future) and vice chairs.

Strategy #2: Increase opportunities for presentation beyond current offerings (especially for junior faculty).

Strategy #3: Teach non-interpretative skills to radiologists throughout their careers.

Objective #3: Increase horizontal integration among all members of the umbrella organization, especially through the affinity group mechanism.

Strategy #1: Strengthen partnerships with APDR, SCARD and APCR.

Strategy #2: Align missions of the affinity groups with the mission of the AUR.

Goal 3: Become the radiology organization known for its development of individual leaders in medical imaging education throughout healthcare.

Objective #1: Create “branded” presentations on important topics for nationwide dissemination to radiologists, medical educators, and other healthcare professionals.

Strategy #1: Collaborate with affinity groups and other radiology societies, wherever possible.

Objective #2: Create a structure to develop and promote innovative educational tools and methods.

Strategy #1: Investigate opportunities within the existing AUR structure.

Objective #3: Change the public perception of radiologists and their roles in patient care.

Strategy #1: Increase awareness of radiologists to patients and patient impact on their outcome by altering what medical students experience during training.

Strategy #2: Improve and increase educational activities among non-radiologists, both existing and future referring physicians.

Goal 4: Promote academic radiology research and the development of leaders and managers in radiology.
