IDEA Scholar

As leaders in Medicine and Radiology we have the privilege to make a significant and long-lasting impact in the lives of our patients, teaching programs and departments for years to come. It is in that spirit we offer this unique and worthwhile educational opportunity to you, our radiology colleagues and members of the AAR.

What is the IDEA Scholar Program?
In response to the needs of our members, recognizing the variability in the accessibility and depth of training in Diversity, Equity and Inclusion at every institution, the AAR has organized the Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Allyship (IDEA) Scholar program to offer you an opportunity to build the skills and confidence to serve as an educator and leader in your practice.

The IDEA Scholar program will train you both to increase your knowledge and awareness of these issues and how you can teach these ideas and principles to others. The program will be structured with a total of 5 full group workshops supplemented with small group breakout sessions in between.

All workshops will be held from 3:00-6:00 PM (ET); 2:00-5:00 PM (CT); 12:00-3:00 PM (PT) on the date indicated. Small group breakouts will be scheduled between workshops per the availability of the group. 

In addition to participating in the workshops and breakouts, it is a requirement that all participants share these skills with their programs by giving lectures and/or hosting workshops at their institutions next spring.

Workshop 1: October 12  –  History of Systemic Racism

Workshop 3: December 7  –  Bias in Academic Medicine- Recruitment, Retention, Promotion

Workshop 4: January 11 – Bias in Radiology – Effect on Patient Care/ Healthcare Disparities
Faculty: Dr. Nolan Kagetsu

Workshop 5: February 8  – Strategies To Mitigate Health Care Disparities, Bias in Academic Medicine and Radiology
Dr. Senta Berggruen and Dr. Nolan Kagetsu

The program is open to all AAR members.

Application Process
The application process will open in mid-August.
